TEHRAN – A man is preparing rice seedlings for transplantation in a paddy field in Isfahan, central Iran. Planting rice seedlings starts every year in mid-May and lasts until mid-July in the province.

Some 77 percent of the country’s rice is produced in the three northern provinces of Gilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan neighboring the Caspian Sea.
